Privacy Policy
Effective October 4, 2026
The short version
- We only ask for your email, to send you StoryToons news: occasional updates as we build, and a hello when we launch.
- We never sell your information, and we never share it with anyone for their own marketing.
- Pages for kids have no tracking at all. No analytics, no cookies, no ads.
- Our emails don’t track you. No hidden pixels that report when you open them.
- Leaving takes one click. Every update has an unsubscribe link, and we’ll delete everything we hold about you if you ask.
- Questions? Write to hello@storytoons.com. A real person reads every message.
The rest of this page gives the details.
Who we are
StoryToons, Inc. (“StoryToons,” “we,” “us”) is a Seattle company at 5608 17th Avenue NW #1160, Seattle, WA 98107, USA. We’re responsible for the information described here. Questions any time: hello@storytoons.com.
What we collect, and why
When you join our waitlist: your email address, the language you signed up in (so our emails reach you in that language), the page you signed up from, and when you signed up and confirmed. That record is how we know, and can show, that you asked to hear from us.
Your child’s age group, if you choose to tell us. After you confirm your email, we ask one optional question: roughly how old your child is (for example, “3 to 5”). We use it only to send stories and news that fit that age. We never ask for a name or a birthday, and you can change or remove your answer any time from the “Email preferences” link in our emails.
A scrambled version of your network address, briefly. To stop bots from signing up other people’s email addresses, we count signups coming from each network. We store only a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address, never the address itself, and delete it within 2 days.
Usage data on grown-up pages. On pages written for grown-ups (like our homepage and blog), we use Google Analytics to see how the site is used: pages viewed, approximate location, device type. It relies on cookies and similar identifiers. We look at the results only as totals and don’t use them to identify you. For visitors in the EU, UK, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, analytics cookies are turned off by default.
Your theme and language choices. If you switch between light and dark mode or choose a language, that choice is saved in your own browser (localStorage). It never leaves your device.
Kids’ pages
Some pages, like our character pages and site search, are written for children. These pages do not use analytics, advertising, cookies, or any third-party trackers, and they never ask for personal information. Searches run entirely in your browser and are not sent to us or anyone else.
How we use your email
For one thing only: StoryToons news. That means a message to confirm your signup, occasional updates as we build (about once a month), and a hello when we launch. We don’t sell your information, and we don’t share it with anyone for their own marketing.
Why we’re allowed to
- Our emails: you asked for them by signing up and confirming (your consent). You can take that back any time by unsubscribing.
- The anti-bot check: our legitimate interest in keeping the list free of addresses that never signed up, which protects you as much as us.
- Analytics on grown-up pages: your consent where the law requires it, and otherwise our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used.
Who helps us
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) stores our waitlist and sends our emails.
- Google Analytics provides the usage statistics described above.
- Cloudflare Turnstile may check that a signup comes from a person, not a bot. It runs only on our signup form, and may look at your browser and network address to decide. We never see what it looks at, only a yes or no. How Cloudflare handles that data is described in Cloudflare’s Turnstile privacy policy.
They handle data only on our instructions and under their own privacy terms.
Where your information is stored
In the United States. If you live elsewhere, your information is transferred to the US, and our providers protect it with the safeguards the law requires for such transfers (such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses).
How long we keep it
- While you’re on the list, we keep your details so we can email you.
- If you unsubscribe or never confirm, we keep only a minimal record (your email address and what happened when) so we never email you by mistake and can show we respected your choice. Ask us and we’ll delete that too.
- Anti-bot counters are deleted within 2 days.
- Backups: deleted information can remain in our encrypted backups for up to 35 days before it’s gone for good.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe with one click from any update, or use the “Email preferences” link in our emails to change your language or stop emails.
- See, correct, or delete your information, or get a copy of it, by writing to hello@storytoons.com. We’ll answer within 30 days.
- Object to how we use your information, or withdraw your consent, at any time.
- Complain to a regulator. If you’re in the EU or UK, you can contact your local data protection authority. We’d be grateful for the chance to fix things first.
- Cookies: most browsers let you block or clear them, which limits analytics.
Children’s privacy
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Our waitlist is for parents and other adults. If you believe a child has submitted their email address here, contact us at hello@storytoons.com and we’ll delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect or how we use it changes (for example, when the full StoryToons product launches), we’ll update this page and the effective date above. For important changes, we’ll also let subscribers know by email.
