Pelu

A tiny ball of blue fluff who hops everywhere. She knows the sound every letter makes.

Who is Pelu?

Pelu is a tiny ball of blue fluff with two bright eyes and two very small feet.

She is the smallest creature in the Alphabet Woods. She is also the bounciest. Pelu does not walk anywhere. She hops.

What does Pelu do?

Pelu collects sounds.

She cannot say whole words yet. But she knows the sound that every letter makes. Mmm. Sss. Buh. Tuh. When Pelu hears a new sound, she hops once and says it back.

If you say a sound to Pelu, she will always answer.

What is Pelu like?

Pelu is cheerful, bouncy, and never quiet for long.

She is small enough to ride on Oko’s head, and she often does.

Where does her name come from?

In Spanish, French and Italian, a soft cuddly toy is called a peluche. Pelu is short for that. She is about as soft as a name can be.

Try this tonight

Can you make Pelu's sounds? Say *Mmm*. Say *Sss*. Say *Buh*. Pelu always says a sound back, so say each one again, a little louder, and listen for her answer.

Mysteries

Some things about Pelu are still a mystery, even to us:

  • What does Pelu look like under all that fluff?
  • What will her very first word be?
  • Where does she keep all the sounds she collects?

Maybe the stories will tell us one day.
